Terminology Explained
  • What is an Internship?
  • This is a work-related learning experience for individuals who wish to develop hands-on experience in a teaching environment for a fixed term. The main advantage for INTESOL WORLDWIDE trainees is that graduate status is not a requirement! An Intern earns less money, works fewer hours, but is learning the job while they work. Being an Intern looks good on your CV and allows you to earn money while you are on a Gap Year!

  • Is there a difference between TEFL and TESOL?
  • TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language and TESOL stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. They are used interchangeably their usage, to a large extent, depends on the awarding body of the certification.

  • Is there a difference between EFL and ESOL?
  • Again used interchangeably EFL stands for English as a Foreign Language and ESOL stands for English to Speakers of Other Languages.

  • What are RMB and Yuan?
  • RMB is short for Renminbi and it is the name of the official currency of mainland China. Yuan is the principle unit of that currency. A good comparison is UK currency sterling is the name but the main unit is the pound.
