It depends what you want to do when you have taken the course.

If you intend to go back-packing and to pick up some work along the way or if you are interested in a volunteer post an Introductory Certificate is recommended.

If you intend to make a career of TEFL/TESOL a Certificate in TEFL/TESOL is the minimum qualification.

If you are a graduate (of any discipline) or a teacher with Qualified Teacher Status, or you have 2 ‘A’ levels or equivalent you are eligible for entry onto a certificate course.

If you do not have these formal qualifications and/or you feel worried about going straight for a certificate we would advise you to take an Introductory Certificate first, then follow it up with the Certificate.

There are so many different course providers telling me different things that looking for a course seems like stepping into a minefield! How do I know who is giving me valid information? Also, how do I know that, once I have parted with my money, I will receive the course materials and an efficient service?
